MEQ Survey Procedures

Student Evaluation Policy

Note that in 2011 the MEQ will be replaced on a trial basis with the University Experience Survey (UES) which is a national survey administered by the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) to measure the quality of the student experience.

Definition of terms

MEQ: Monash Experience Questionnaire. Run on a biennial basis.

Preparing for the survey

  1. The Office of Planning & Quality (OPQ) recommends the revision of the content, structure and length of the MEQ survey to Academic Board via the Learning and Teaching Quality Committee and Education Committee at least 6 months prior to the proposed date of administration of the survey.

  2. After approval of the revised survey, OPQ prepares the survey templates, reviews the demographic data requirements and ITS adjusts the extraction scripts as required.

Administering the survey

  1. OPQ sends out regular reminder emails during the survey period to students who have not responded.

Reporting the survey results

  1. OPQ prepares and publishes online the quantitative analysis reports. Faculties, campuses and divisions are notified that the reports have been published.

  2. OPQ sends the data files to each faculty, campus and division.

  3. OPQ prepares and publishes the qualitative analysis reports. Faculties, campuses and divisions are notified that the reports have been published.

Analysing the survey and reporting improvements

  1. Each faculty, campus and division reviews the published reports and raw data files.

  2. Each faculty, campus and division analyses their performance and prepares and implements an action plan if needed to address areas for improvement.

  3. Each faculty, campus and division reports progress against the action plan to OPQ.
